Justin Thomas seemed to be on cruise control on Sunday during the final round of the Workday Charity Open.
But Collin Morikawa spoiled the party, forcing a playoff with a knee-knocker from two feet on the 18th hole and then winning on the third playoff hole at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
Thomas led by three heading into the final round but bogeyed the second and third holes. He had straight birdies on Nos. 8-11 and then another one on 14. He then took a three-shot lead over Collin Morikawa with a 21-foot putt for eagle on 15.

But Morikawa hung around. After Thomas bogeyed 16, Morikawa birdied 17 to cut the lead to one. Thomas then bogeyed 18 and his lead was gone.
On the first playoff hole, after driving it into the rough, Thomas buried a birdie putt that measured 50 feet, six inches. But then Morikawa matched, draining a 24 footer for birdie on a similar line to the putt Thomas had on 18 in regulation.

On the second playoff hole, Morikawa had a birdie putt that stopped just short of the cup. Thomas then missed his birdie putt to the right, so they both took par.
On the third playoff hole, Morikawa stuffed his second shot, an 8 iron, to about nine feet, while Thomas had to punch out his second shot from next to a tree. His third shot from 102 yards out spun back to about 15 feet and he burned the edge on his par putt.
Morikawa then made par to seal his second Tour victory. He is now 1-1 in playoffs, while Thomas goes to 3-2 in playoffs.
Morikawa now has more wins than missed cuts in his young career. He claimed the Barracuda Championship just over 50 weeks ago.
Viktor Hovland finished third at 15 under. He’s made all five cuts during the restart. Chase Seiffert was fourth at 14 under. Gary Woodland and Ian Poulter tied for fifth at 12 under.
Patrick Cantlay, in his tuneup to his title defense next week at the Memorial, finished in a seven-way tie for seventh.
