College Hockey: Notre Dame Sweeps Penn State

Sweep!

Notre Dame hockey had a successful weekend as the Irish swept Penn State over two-straight nights in South Bend.

Trailing 1-0 early in Saturday’s second period, Patrick Moynihan got the Irish on the scoreboard during a five-on-three. It was the first goal on what wound up being a huge night for Moynihan.  Before period’s end Moynihan would set Landon Slaggert up on a go-ahead goal to put the Irish ahead 2-1 headed to the second intermission.

Moynihan was at it again in the third as his power play goal stretched the Notre Dame lead to 3-1 but a quick Penn State response tied things at 3-3.

Shortly after going to the power play Danny Nelson again made it count for the Irish as his goal gave the Golden Domers a 4-3 lead they wouldn’t look back from.  He’d add an empty net goal as would Trevor Janicke and Notre Dame walked way a 6-3 victor.

The Irish are off next weekend before returning to action February 2-3 at home against Michigan State.
