College football transfer rules could get another massive update

Should college student-athletes be able to transfer multiple times without consequence?

The world of college sports is now changing at a rapid pace. Conferences are shifting. The NIL deals are out of this world, and so on and so on.

Well, another possible change could be added to this list and it involves transfer players. The transfer portal has become more and more common in recent years, and this past offseason saw a ton of high-profile names head to other schools, especially in college football.

According to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic, the Division I Council is recommending that the NCAA should allow transfer players to play immediately upon joining their new school if they meet academic requirements.

More than that, the council wants student-athletes to have the ability to transfer multiple times. Here is the entire thread from Auerbach:

This new idea changes a lot involving the transfer portal. But, this is good for the players since they won’t need to sit out a season before playing in games/events.

On the other hand, this is difficult for the schools to maneuver, especially since players can transfer multiple times. The longevity is shrinking, but the competitive balance should get a bit better with this rule.

The college sports world continues to change drastically, and who knows what happens next. The portal has become a significant talking point lately, and the NIL deals are bringing players to the big ticket programs. With these new portal rules, that should allow big-name programs to do this every year.

Buckle up, changes are coming quickly.
