It this just a holding place at No. 5 for the Crimson Tide? At the moment, the committee believes Bama is still deserving of being ranked ahead of No. 6 Oregon. So what happens if the Tide beat Auburn?
Will Oregon winning a Pac-12 championship with a win over Utah – if that actually happens – be enough to jump over Alabama?
What happens if the Tide obliterate Auburn on the road? What does the score have to be? Do they have to win by ten? 24? 59-0? What’s the number that will make the committee happy?
It would help Bama’s cause if LSU wins out, takes the SEC Championship, and is impressive doing it. If that one loss is to the unquestioned No. 1, that should be enough to overcome the lack of big wins on the Tide resumé …

Would the committee care about the idea of a rematch between the Tigers and Tide? Maybe, but that’s not hot the thing works. In theory, the committee ranks teams, and then the chips fall as they may.
