Coaches On The Hot Seat: No, They Won’t Get Fired, But … WIN NOW
5. Butch Davis, FIU
It’s his fourth year with the program and he’s coming off a losing season. The 0-2 start with a home loss to a previously winless Middle Tennessee doesn’t help. Going to Charlotte next week won’t be easy for a Golden Panther program with four straight losses and losing five of the last six.
4. Matt Wells, Texas Tech
There hasn’t been a whole lot of injury luck at quarterback over his entire, but Alan Bowman doesn’t play defense. The Red Raiders have allowed 30 points or more in 12 of their last 13 games, and the team has lost its last six Big 12 games and nine of its last ten with West Virginia and Oklahoma up next.
3. Scott Satterfield, Louisville
All is okay after turning the program around last year, but the Cardinals are now 0-3 in the ACC after getting steamrolled by a mediocre Georgia Tech team 46-27. A trip to Notre Dame is up next, all but assuring an 0-4 start and 1-4 overall.
2. Mike Leach, Mississippi State
Well that was quick. Leach being Leach is now talking about needing to “purge” the “malcontents” who aren’t getting the job done after a 24-2 loss to Kentucky and with 14 turnovers in the first three games. Next up? Texas A&M and at Alabama – this should be fun.
1. Tom Herman, Texas
Texas is most certainly not back. It might have been a blast of a game against Oklahoma that could’ve gone either way, but it was the third straight game that came down to the final moments with two of them going the wrong way.
At 1-2 in the Big 12 with at trip to Oklahoma State coming and with a date at Kansas State still to deal with. There’s still time to turn this around, but nothing about the Longhorn D would suggest that it could happen.
