SDSU’s win over Utah State shoots them up the polls.
San Diego State is just one of two teams in college basketball, the other being Auburn, and after topping Utah State in Logan coupled with four other top 10 teams losing, the Aztecs are now No. 7 in the latest AP top 25 poll.
Not only do the Aztecs look to be the class of the Mountain West, but they are also going to be fighting to be one of the best teams in the country. This is the highest-ranked the team has been since being fifth during the 2013-14 season. This San Diego State team is also at the top of the NET ratings and 15th in KenPom. So, a top-three seed for the NCAA Tournament is in the mix.
5 consecutive weeks in the AP Top 25.

This team is playing head and shoulders above anyone in the Mountain West and according to KenPom has a 6.4 percent chance of going undefeated this season.
The schedule looks fairly manageable until the tail end of the month, but the biggest hurdle will be a three-game stretch against UNLV and New Mexico, both road games on Jan. 26 and Jan. 29, then home against Utah State on Feb. 1. That set of games seems to be the most likely of time for San Diego State to take a loss but even those games see the Aztecs as favorites.
