There’s no doubt that Bronny James will add a very intriguing piece to this USC basketball roster when he is ultimately medically cleared to play. It’s another piece of the puzzle and another source of depth USC can use for its NCAA Tournament push.
However, as Kevin Sweeney of Sports Illustrated told us, the Trojans had a strong roster even before Bronny arrived.
“USC will be a really interesting team. I think obviously the specter (lingers) of having Bronny and his status, obviously still somewhat questionable given the cardiac arrest incident earlier this summer. Certainly we’re glad that he seems okay. That’s the most important thing. It seems like he’s going to lead a very happy life and healthy life, and all things considered that’s the best thing possible,” Sweeney said. “What he does on the basketball court this year for USC, I think was an open question before that incident. After, it is even more up in the air.
“But I think this team was certainly a team that was very compelling on paper without him, to have arguably the best high school basketball player that’s playing in college this year, Isaiah Collier.”
Make no mistake: Bronny will put eyeballs on this team when he does take the court, but Collier is the best player. Collier needs to be the leader and best player on this team.
