Colin Cowherd weighs in on WNBA’s treatment of Caitlin Clark

Colin Cowherd dove into how Caitlin Clark is being treated by the WNBA and women’s basketball.

The WNBA has seen ratings and fan turnouts like never before in its existence. That is largely due to one huge headliner that is drawing in fans.

That headliner is Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever. She is the most talked about WNBA player this season, =putting up a historic rookie campaign.

Clark is shattering record after record from assists, to points accounted for, and breaking new ground for rookies scoring and contributing.

Caitlin Clark is the clear front-runner for the WNBA Rookie of the Year race with a very substantial lead in the odds for who will take home the trophy. Clark is listed at -500 while Angel Reese is listed at +300 for the award.

The most recent to weigh in on Caitlin Clark is Colin Cowherd. He most recently dove into the race on his show, “The Herd.”

“She’s breaking records every week. So, part of the silliness of not allowing her on the Olympic team is she was a very quickly improving player and now you kind of look silly. She’s arguably the best playmaker in the league, arguably the second-best three-point shooter in the league. I don’t know, that seems valuable in Olympic competition, and she’s not on the team” Cowherd said.

Cowherd continued with diving into the WNBA’s decision to leave her out of the skills competition at the All-Star game despite being the main reason fans are tuning in.

“Yesterday, they also announced the skills competition for the WNBA All-Star team and she didn’t make that either. She didn’t make the three-point shooting contest?”

“So you argued she wasn’t good for the Olympics. Your argument, though I don’t buy it women’s basketball, was that she would be a distraction. Eye roll, but okay. So, isn’t the perfect place to put her is in the skills competition?” Cowherd questioned.

“It’s almost hard rooting for women’s basketball. It cracks me up how they treat her. If you really think about it, they’re trying to get her to pay her dues but she’s the one paying all the fees. She’s the reason you’re flying private,” Cowherd added.

“She’s paying for everything and you want her to pay her dues. It’s really ridiculous,” Cowherd ended with.

Caitlin Clark and the rest of the WNBA All-Stars will play in the WNBA All-Star game on Saturday, July 20th at 7:30 p.m. CT in the Footprint Center in Pheonix, AZ.
