Sometimes sports personality Colin Cowherd is right and sometimes he’s wrong. But he always speaks his mind and whether you agree or not, he will make you think. This week, Cowherd talked about the Pittsburgh Steelers and he inadvertently (or may not) trolled the Steelers with a comparison that is really hard to argue against.
“You sound like a well-run business without any upside,” Cowherd said. “It’s like a restaurant that never changes its menu.”
He’s not wrong. The Steelers and the majority of its fanbase have become completely content with mediocrity. Head coach Mike Tomlin’s claim to fame is never finishing under .500. As impressive as that type of consistency is, it doesn’t win Super Bowls.
This offseason has felt like a change with general manager Omar Khan taking a much more aggressive approach to building the roster. None of that will matter if Tomlin cannot adapt and grow, becoming more creative to do more than just tread water in a very deep AFC.
