One good sign for the Washington Redskins is that their rookie talent is finding their footing early on this season. That may be due to the increased role that’s been placed on their shoulders due to injuries or what-have-you, but it’s resulting in a promising future for many players.
One of those rookies is linebacker Cole Holcomb, who the Redskins selected in the fifth round out of North Carolina. With 13 tackles in Washington’s win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Holcomb is up for the NFL’s Week 12 Pepsi Rookie of the Week.
Holcomb has quickly become one of the better players on the Redskins’ defense; he ranks third on the team with 74 total sacks, and he has five tackles for loss and two QB hits. With the loss of Reuben Foster earlier in the offseason, Washington desperately needed help at the linebacker position, and they seemed to have found what they were looking for.
