Former North Carolina Tar Heels’ point guard Cole Anthony is staying in Orlando for the foreseeable future.
Just a day before the 2023-24 NBA season is scheduled to tip off, Anthony has reportedly agreed on a three-year contract extension to stay with the team that drafted him. Adrian Wojnarowski reported the deal on Monday, as Anthony has agreed to the deal that is worth $39M over three years.
The 23-year-old Anthony averaged 13 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game last season for the Magic. He appeared in 60 games last season and shot career highs of 45.4% overall and 36.4% from 3-point range. Anthony adjusted to the Sixth Man role for the Magic and performed well.
Orlando is an up-and-coming team in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, carefully building their roster over the past few seasons including some top lottery picks. It’s clear that they value Anthony as a key piece to their future, hence the extension to keep him here an additional three more seasons.
Anthony’s deal got done ahead of Monday night’s deadline for rookie extensions in the NBA.
