Coby White reaches 4,000 points for his NBA career

Former UNC basketball standout Coby White is known for his strong scoring ability. That ability helped him reach an NBA milestone Tuesday.

When the Chicago Bulls traded for Lonzo Ball before the 2021-2022 NBA season, the expectation was he’d be their franchise point guard.

A meniscus tear in 2022 derailed those plans, as he hasn’t played since Jan. 14 that year. Unfortunately for Ball, whenever he does return, it likely won’t be a starting role in Chicago.

The reason for that is former Tar Heel Coby White. who is having a career year as the Bulls’ starter. He’s started all 35 games, averaging a career-high 17.6 points per game on nearly 44% field goal shooting.

In addition to those highs, White just added another career milestone to his plate.

On Tuesday night against the Philadelphia 76ers, White reached 4,000 career points.

What NBA fans aren’t yet familiar with from the high-scoring guard from Goldsboro, N.C., Tar Heel fans are.

The Chicago Bulls’ first-round, 2019 NBA Draft Choice averaged 16.1 points per game during his 2018-2019 campaign in Chapel Hill, shooting over 40% from the field and 35% from deep. He reached double-digit point totals in all but seven collegiate games, including a career-high 34 against Syracuse on Feb. 26, 2019.

White currently has Chicago (15-20) holding onto the fourth and final NBA Play-In Tournament spot. His red-hot play can help the Bulls climb the Eastern Conference standings this week, with games against the New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets.
