Coby White, Chicago Bulls looking to book spot in playoffs

Coby White and the Chicago Bulls are looking to make the NBA Playoffs, facing a do-or-die game against Miami.

Former North Carolina guard Coby White is one more win away from returning to the NBA Playoffs. After Chicago stormed back from a 19-point deficit on Wednesday night to stun the Toronto Raptors, they face another do-or-die game on Friday in Miami against the Heat.

The winner moves on to face No. 1 seed Milwaukee while the loser is back home and focusing on the offseason. That will have ramifications for White as he is set to hit free agency.

After being a lottery pick in the 2019 NBA draft, White is in the final year of his deal with the Bulls and he’s playing some of his best basketball down the stretch.

White is averaging 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 44.3 percent from the field. That includes 37.2 percent from the three-point line. And he’s doing it as a reserve.

The guard has found his role in Chicago’s rotation, coming off the bench and improving his overall game including on the defensive side. White understands his role and has fit in nicely with what Chicago wants to do in the rotation.

While stats don’t count in the play-in games, White was impressive on Wednesday finishing with 9 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field.

White will be looking for a payday this offseason, whether that’s in Chicago or somewhere else. And a big finish to the season could go a long ways.
