Coastal Carolina Chanticleers: Keys To The Season, Top Game, Top Transfer, Fun Stats
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers: Key To The 2022 Offense
Find receivers who can stretch the field.
Of course there are always going to be good parts ready to take over for the old versions, but it’s asking a whole lot for Xavier Gravitate to be the passing catching deep threat tight end that Isaiah Likely was.
The Chanticleers have receivers waiting in the wings, but Javon Heiligh was a gamebreaker and Kameron Brown averaged close to 17 yards per grab.
The offense makes the playmakers at Coastal Carolina, and Grayson McCall makes everyone better, but the passing game has to keep on rolling with a slew of untested parts.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers: Key To The 2022 Defense
Come up with more takeaways.
The offense was so efficient there weren’t a whole lot of problems with turnover margin, but the big plays would be nice.
The defense was more than fine last year, but it struggled to make big plays on a regular basis. It generated 13 takeaways – almost half of the 25 the D came up with in 2020 – but nine of them came in three games and six times the D failed to come up with any.
With all of the changes in offensive personnel, the defense needs to provide as much help as possible.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers: Key Player To The 2022 Season
LB JT Killen, Jr.
Of course the entire season revolves around QB Grayson McCall and whether or not he can stay in one piece, but as long as he’s fine, it’s the linebacking corps that needs the most attention.
All of the other positions that need rebuilding should be okay with a little time, but linebacker has the biggest holes and work to do. Killen is a 6-3, 245-pound junior who made 17 tackles in a reserve role in the middle last year. If he’s not great, then the corps is completely starting over.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers: Key Transfer
WR Sam Pinckney, Sr.
The Chanticleers suffered a whole slew of losses through the transfer portal – most are fixable, but Mississippi State stealing PK Massimo Biscardi wasn’t nice – but they also picked up a few parts to help.
The 6-4 Pinckney was a good deep threat for Georgia State, coming up with five touchdown catches in 2019 and seven more in 2020 before being a bit out of the mix last year. He’s got good size, can move, and unlike the returning receivers, he brings 113 catches of career experience.
Coastal Carolina Key Game To The 2022 Season
at Georgia State, Sept. 22
The Chanticleers have a slew of big showdowns in the Sun Belt with Appalachian State coming to town and a trip to Marshall a huge deal in the new look for the conference, but Georgia State is tricky. It’s the Sun Belt opener on the road, and it’ll be the big test to see if the team has put it all together three games in.
