One of the biggest recruiting wins of the 2023 class was Colorado pulling in five-star cornerback Cormani McClain from the state of Florida. With all of the Buffs’ roster turnover, McClain could see instant action as a true freshman.
During Colorado’s fall sports media day on Friday, head coach Deion Sanders provided an update on the five-star’s progress with the Buffs.
“He’s coming slowly but surely. Slowly but surely,” Sanders said. “He’s just got to make that adjustment from (high school to college) emotionally, mentally and psychologically and he’s going to be OK. But, he’s getting in shape. That’s No. 1. He’s got to understand the different levels of his game and you’ve got to have the light switch on at all times, especially playing against the receivers we have.”
There’s no denying McClain’s talent, but like most true freshmen, earning a significant role in CU’s defense this fall will come down to him taking care of the little things.
McClain’s progress throughout fall camp will be one of the more interesting storylines to follow over the next couple of weeks leading up to the Buffs’ Week 1 matchup against TCU.
