At Big 12 media days early this week, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders compared current Buffs linebacker Trevor Woods to NFL Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher.
It’s impressive to be compared to a gold jacket member, and the similarities in their career paths are easy to spot. Woods played safety in high school and during his first two years at CU before moving to linebacker midway through last season. Urlacher was also a high school safety and wide receiver before moving to linebacker at New Mexico. He was a first-round draft pick before being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
During his first press conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Coach Prime was asked about what’s giving him confidence heading into his second year with the Buffs. He mentioned several impact players, including Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, Charlie Offerdahl and Mark Vassett, before talking about Woods:
“I really think this young man is going to be the next Brian Urlacher,” Sanders said. “I think he’s going to take the transition from safety to linebacker and be dominant.”
