Rajon Rondo’s role in an excellent championship run for the Los Angeles Lakers earned the respect of a lot of doubters and also found some admirers across the hall at Staples Center with the team that still looks to win the city of L.A. and the NBA championship.
According to reporting this week from Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Los Angeles Clippers are expected to be a serious suitor for the services of point guard Rajon Rondo in free agency. Rondo signed a two-year deal with a player option in the second year for the minimum and after the playoff run he had, he had no reason not to become a free agent again to see if he could get a little more than the veteran minimum. As Stein notes, the Clippers see point guard as a serious weakness.
The Lakers are naturally determined to re-sign Rondo, who played a huge role in their playoff run, but the Clippers are eager to upgrade at point guard. Rondo has said he is planning to test the open market, which means declining his §2.7 million option for next season

While nothing is official yet, it does seem like a pursuit of Rondo is a vote of ‘no confidence’ on the backcourt tandem of Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams.
