It’s a sad day for Cleveland. Legendary local weatherman and TV personality Dick Goddard has passed away. He was 89.
Goddard is best known for his more than 50 years as a television weatherman, almost all of that time with WJW-8 in Cleveland. His smooth, calm demeanor in severe weather events was a welcome presence for Northeast Ohio from 1965 until his retirement in 2016.
In addition to being one of Cleveland’s most recognizable figures, Goddard was also the official Browns statistician for home games. He worked as the stat man for the Browns radio crew on broadcasts from 1966-2011.
On a personal note, Goddard elevated the profile of my hometown of Vermilion with his tireless promotion and dedication to the annual Woollybear Festival, which he helped create in 1973. A proud Air Force veteran, Goddard was also a very ardent supporter of animal rights and pet adoption services.
We here at Browns Wire offer our deepest sympathies to Goddard’s family and large network of friends.
