Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter named preseason first-team AP All-American

Carter is one of the best linebackers in the country.

Clemson star linebacker Barrett Carter has earned another preseason honor as one of the best defensive players in college football.

Carter was named to the preseason Associated Press All-America team on Monday, being recognized as one of the top players in the country at his position. He, along with LSU’s Harold Perkins and Iowa’s Jay Higgins, make up the first-team linebackers, earning the nod over Oklahoma’s Danny Stutsman.

Carter, expected to be an early-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, surprised many by choosing to return to Clemson. His decision reflects a commitment to improving his skills and raising his draft stock for 2025.

Last season, Carter made his mark in 11 games, ranking second on the team with 59 tackles. He also recorded nine tackles for loss and added three sacks to his impressive performance. He wasn’t as good as he would have liked, though, opting to return to Clemson for another season of development

A well-earned honor for the star linebacker.
