The bubble watch is officially on for a number of programs across the country. With the final week approaching and conference tournament season almost here, every game is important.
The USC Trojans did their part by beating Utah on the road on Saturday. That’s the good news. However, one bubble team might have caused a problem for USC — the Clemson Tigers.
Clemson got a tough road win over previously ranked NC State, and the Tigers won in convincing fashion, 96-71. This is exactly what Clemson needed to help its case (h/t Alex Turri of Clemson Wire).
“A massive and much-needed win for the Tigers,” Turri wrote, “who currently sit on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers rose to the occasion against a tough NC State team. Underdogs heading in, the Tigers won by 25, playing some excellent basketball and showing what they are capable of any given night.”
Clemson was in the “next four out” in Joe Lunardi’s bracketology, so this win over a strong Wolfpack team helps them, but it also complicates the Trojans’ hopes of earning a spot.
This upcoming week is important for both teams. Clemson faces Virginia and Notre Dame, and the Trojans face both Arizona schools.
