It’s halftime at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, and the Clemson Tigers lead the Florida State Seminoles, 23-7.
After falling behind 17-0 at the end of one, the Seminoles found a bit of rhythm on offense early in the second quarter. Brock Glenn led the ‘Noles on an eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive that took 3:51 off the clock.
Glenn hit Amaree Williams for a 13-yard touchdown on 3rd and goal from the Clemson 13-yard line for FSU’s first points to cut the lead to 17-7.
Klubnik got the Tigers to the Florida State 17-yard line on their next possession before things went backward with two negative plays. Clemson left some points on the board when Nolan Hauser’s 38-yard field goal was blocked to keep it 17-7 with around seven minutes to play until halftime.
Florida State punted after going three-and-out.
On the Tigers’ next offensive series, Klubnik threaded the smallest of needles when he hit tight end Josh Sapp for 24 yards to the Florida State 25-yard line near the two-minute timeout. Hauser attempted another 38-yard field goal and placed it inside the right upright to make it 20-7 with 1:51 remaining in the half.
The defense forced another three-and-out stop, and the Tigers took over at their own 15-yard line with just 1:04 to play. Phil Mafah picked up 16 yards on the first play of the drive, and three plays later Klubnik hit freshman Bryant Wesco for 16 more to the Clemson 44.
The Tigers drove to the Florida State 8-yard line with 3 seconds left before Hauser connected on his third field goal of the night (from 25 yards out) to make it 23-7 at intermission.
At halftime, Clemson has 20 first downs and 313 yards of total offense compared to just four first downs and 84 yards by Florida State; 75 of which came on their lone scoring drive.
Klubnik was 15-of-23 for 191 yards through the air in the first half, plus 59 yards on the ground through eight carries. Antonio Williams had three catches for 84 yards, including his 57-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter.
Glenn was 8-of-14 for 77 yards through the air for FSU. The Tigers’ defense held the Seminoles’ ground attack to just seven yards.
Clemson has held the ball for 16:59 to 13:01 for Florida State.
