Former Alabama offensive tackle Jonah Williams was selected No. 11 overall in the 2019 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Williams will now remain with the AFC North franchise through the 2023 season after the Bengals agreed to pick up his fifth-year option.
Williams suffered an unfortunate shoulder injury just before beginning his rookie season in 2019 and also suffered a knee injury late in the 2020 season.
The Bengals seek a steady and effective offensive line to protect franchise quarterback Joe Burrow. After losing in the Super Bowl last season, it was popular to point blame to the offensive line.
Securing Williams through 2023 will likely alleviate some concerns about the line heading into 2022.
New fifth-year options picked up: #Packers Darnell Savage, Rashan Gary, #Bengals OT Jonah Williams, #Panthers pass-rusher Brian Burns, source said.
