Square Enix is allegedly working on a remake of Chrono Cross, Video Games Chronicle reported Tuesday.
A remake of the cult-classic PS1 RPG was on Nvidia’s database leak back in September. However, while the company confirmed the list itself was real, any game’s inclusion was not a confirmation that it exists. Confusing, I know. Yet it seems like a Chrono Cross remake is likely happening all the same.
XboxEra’s Nick Baker said on a recent podcast that Chrono Cross is indeed getting a remake. It’s also likely not exclusive to PlayStation, as rumors initially suggested.
“Chrono Cross Remastered, I think, was already on the Nivida leak list, so the game shouldn’t be a surprise. It was on Nvidia’s list. But I was told that that [Video Games Chronicle] article is about Chrono Cross Remastered,” Baker said on Youtube. “What else I was told, because everyone’s working under the assumption that it’s a PlayStation exclusive, I’ve been told that it’s not. The only word that was used was ‘multiplatform.'”
If the rumors are true, then a Chrono Cross remaster should get an announcement in December. Perhaps even during The 2021 Game Awards. It’s the biggest event of the month, so if Square Enix wants to make a slash, that would be the place to do it. If the project does exist, let’s hope it turns out better than the GTA Trilogy remaster.
