Christian McCaffrey stands alone as the most talented player on the Carolina Panthers this year. Heading into his fourth season in the NFL, McCaffrey has established himself as the game’s best running back and one of the top players in the entire sport, according to his peers.
There is still a long way to go, but if McCaffrey continues to play at this high level for several more years, he should have a legitimate shot to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he’s done.
According to Bill Barnwell at ESPN, McCaffrey is Carolina’s best potential future Hall of Famer.
“If McCaffrey can piece together even two more seasons at his 2019 level and add two or three more like his 2018 campaign, that might be enough to make it to the Hall of Fame. But history tells us that’s a lot to ask. McCaffrey is still only 24 and has a relatively sterling health history, so it’s on him to buck history.”
Staying healthy will have a huge impact on if he makes it or not. That may require getting considerably fewer than the league-high 403 touches he had during the 2019 season.
We should probably expect to see more of the backups this year, including Reggie Bonnafon, Jordan Scarlett, Mike Davis and possibly even some Trenton Cannon, who was just picked up off waivers from the Jets.
