Chris Paul signing gets high marks for San Antonio Spurs in new analysis

“This is a win for Paul, too,” they suggest.

Not everyone is convinced that the San Antonio Spurs‘ recent decision to sign away veteran floor general Chris Paul from the Golden State Warriors makes sense for his new ball club. But when it comes to the staff of Bleacher Report and their assessment of some of the biggest deals in free agency so far this summer, CP3 to the Spurs is seen as a very good move indeed.

Noting how much better San Antonio played when forward Jeremy Sochan was not being miscast as a point guard in place of even a very raw and young actual floor general, Bleacher Report writes that “they may have the best form of “actual point guard” in the league in Chris Paul.”

“And though he’s now pushing 40, CP3’s feel for the game, experience, pass-first mentality and leadership should do wonders for both (Victor) Wembanyama and the Spurs next season,” they add.

“This is a win for Paul, too,” suggests B/R of the Point God signing.

“He gets the opportunity to play with the next potential all-timer, and San Antonio has proved more than capable of extending the careers of stars.”

The final grade for the signing? Just the sole A+ given out on Day 1 signings for 2024 NBA free agency.
