The NBA is working on its plan to return to action and eventually finish the 2019-2020 season, but countless questions remain about logistics and health risks as the world continues to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Last week, NBA commissioner Adam Silver explained the league’s outline for a comeback, including strategies for keeping players safe and containing the spread of COVID-19 in the event that a player tests positive. During an appearance on ESPN’s The Jump on Friday, National Basketball Players Association president Chris Paul was optimistic about a return, saying that while safety is paramount and everyone involved wants to keep things as safe as possible, he believes that most players want to get back on the court and finish the season.
“A lot of hard conversations that have to be made, a lot of hard decisions, but with the team around us I think ultimately we’ll get to where we want to. Obviously we want to play. Oh man we want to play. We want to play bad, and I think that’s the consensus for the guys around the league. We want it to be, obviously, as safe as possible, but the biggest thing is we miss the game.
…. I don’t have all the answers, but I know that people are working tirelessly trying to figure it out.”
