Chris Paul, point guard of the Oklahoma City Thunder and president of the National Basketball Players Association, took part in a conference call with a handful of stars around the league Monday to discuss the potential resumption of the season, according to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes.
The stars agreed to form a “formed a “united front in favor of resuming,” Haynes tweeted.
Other players on the call included LeBron James, Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Steph Curry.
The group agreed they would play with “proper safety measures” once the NBA has given clearance.
Most players whose teams are out of playoff contention or highly unlikely to fight back into it preferred the league begin with playoffs instead of finishing up the regular season, according to Haynes.
On Tuesday, the NBPA began polling players to gauge interest on returning, according to ESPN.
Commissioner Adam Silver was present in a conference call with some NBA PA members on Friday. Addressed in the talk was health, finances and how the schedule would be structured should play resume, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
Though the topic is being addressed, return is not imminent. Silver said the decision did not need to be made in May and talks could continue into following months.
If a traditional eight-seed playoff was to take place, the Thunder would have the fifth seed in the Western Conference and play against the Utah Jazz.
