Take a bow, Chris Olave. The New Orleans Saints wide receiver posted his third career game with 100-plus receiving yards on Sunday, totaling 5 receptions for 102 yards with a touchdown catch in their 27-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. That puts him at 51 receptions for 760 receiving yards with 3 touchdown catches through 10 games on the season, an average of 5.1 receptions and 76 yards per game.
It’s really, really impressive. Olave has now tied Michael Thomas for the second-most 100-yard games as a rookie in Saints franchise history, with 3 of them; Marques Colston set the bar with 4 of those performances way back in 2006. With seven games left to play this season, there’s a very real chance that Olave ends up resetting that record.
And games like this are going to help his case for the annual NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Expectations were already high for Olave. He was the leading favorite over the summer, though he’s since been usurped by Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III at Tipico Sportsbook. But the Saints had sky-high expectations for Olave too, and so far he’s surpassed them. He’s well on his way to standing among the best receivers in the league. Let’s see what else he has in store this season.
