Chris Grier’s word on Deshaun Watson is about to be put to the test

Will the decision-makers go back on their stance?

The Miami Dolphins have seemed to put a lot of aspects of the past behind them early in this offseason. They’ve moved on from head coach Brian Flores, bringing in Mike McDaniel from San Francisco, and have committed verbally to Tua Tagovailoa.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier spoke to reporters at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine a week ago and put to bed any potential trades for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson after years of rumors and speculation.

At the time, it made a lot of sense. Watson was facing potential criminal charges as well as whatever the punishments are for his civil cases and possible league discipline. Now, at least some of those worries have gone away as it was made clear on Friday that the quarterback would not face criminal charges.

Many are reporting that Watson’s trade market is about to increase, as teams are more willing to go after the 26-year-old to be the leader of their franchise if there isn’t a chance he faces jail time.

The Dolphins have been one of the teams that were linked to Watson the most, but it appears they’ve moved past all of that if what Grier is saying is accurate. Will the minds of Miami’s decision-makers be changed with this news? It’s too soon to tell.
