One of the players who was stealing the show for the Tennessee Titans during mandatory minicamp was 2022 fourth-round pick and tight end, Chigoziem Okonkwo.
Chig tallied a total of four touchdowns over the course of the two open practices of mandatory minicamp and was listed as one of the biggest standouts by beat writers for his work overall.
One of those beat writers is ESPN’s Turron Davenport, who recently named Chig the team’s surprise standout of the offseason.
The rookie fourth-round pick quickly picked up what the coaching staff asked of him and is already showing his versatility by lining up across the formation like he did in college at Maryland. Okonkwo caught a total of four touchdown passes in two days of minicamp practice. One of them was a diving catch in the corner of the end zone on a pass from Ryan Tannehill.
We’ve already seen the kind of receiving prowess experts raved about with Okonkwo going into the draft, but the jury is still out on his ability to block.
Showing he can excel in that area in training camp will be a big factor in how many snaps Okonkwo will see in his rookie season. If he proves to be a liability, Okonkwo won’t fully seize the No. 2 role behind Austin Hooper.
No matter what he does as a blocker, Okonkwo will, at the very least, have a role as a pass-catcher in 2022 in what is a wide open situation in Tennessee’s passing attack.
