The Kansas City Chiefs are locked in ahead of Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They’re focused on the thing they set out to do as soon as they won Super Bowl LIV, which is to go out and win another one.
The game plan has already been installed and right now, the team is ramping up their energy and avoiding the trap of peaking too soon. That doesn’t mean that they’re not making the most out of this extra week to prepare, however. In fact, some players are using this week to take their game up a notch.
One of those players has been Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is already known for his arm talent and pinpoint accuracy. According to Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill, Mahomes has been throwing some impressive passes during practice. Passes that are more impressive than the ones that he usually throws.
Hill’s excitement for this development, well it couldn’t be contained.
“But, man. What’s crazy is, that Pat, he’s been on a roll,” Hill told reporters on Thursday. “What’s crazy is, I haven’t seen Pat throw dots like this at practice. Like he’s been throwing crazy dots. Like he usually throws dots, but the dots he’s been throwing lately have been crazy. I ain’t even gonna cap. I mean, I’m pretty fired up. Wait and see, I’ve got to rub my hands together. I’m excited about that.”
Hill was in rare form during his media availability on Thursday, but you could tell his excitement was genuine. He was giddy over these passes that Mahomes threw in practice in a way that he really has never been before.
I guess we all shouldn’t be too surprised that Mahomes is locked in and prepared to the fullest extent. He knows how big Super Bowl LV is perceived to be as it relates to his legacy. But he also knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl and he certainly knows what it takes to beat a Tom Brady-led team. Combine those pieces of knowledge and you have a winning recipe for Sunday.
