The Kansas City Chiefs are working to lock up one of their star players on a long-term contract extension.
Tyreek Hill is in the final year of his current contract and he’s been someone that many have expected would receive an extension. The primary reason being an extension would likely lower his $20.8 million salary-cap number for 2022, freeing up cap space for Kansas City to make other moves ahead of the start of free agency.
According to a new report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs and Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus have exchanged numbers all week during the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine. The two sides continue to work toward a long-term extension, but nothing has been agreed upon quite yet.

“There has been a focus in Kansas City on a guy who is currently under contract and that is Tyreek Hill. Of course, one of their great success stories. This would be the third contract for Tyreek Hill. My understanding is the two sides, longtime agent Drew Rosenhaus and the Kansas City Chiefs have been involved in negotiations over the course of the week. There have been proposals going back and forth on a potential long-term deal. Now, the last time these two sides did a long-term deal it was uniquely designed to make Tyreek Hill — considering all the off-field issues he had — to make him earn every bit of it. My understanding is this deal is much more normal and conventional considering what he has done the last few years. He has earned the opportunity to get a deal and a regular contract, one that will likely make him among the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.”
Hill previously agreed to a three-year $54-million-dollar contract extension in 2019, but that deal was made contingent on Hill’s ability to stay out of trouble off the field. He’s since been cleared of allegations of child abuse and has been a model citizen. He’s also been one of the most dominant receivers in the game, with 256 receptions, 3,375 receiving yards and 31 receiving touchdowns during that span. Expect Hill to be paid as such.
