Chiefs’ Tyrann Mathieu has 2nd-best overall rating among safeties in ‘Madden NFL 21’

Tyrann Mathieu will be one of the best safeties in the newest iteration of the “Madden” video game franchise.

ESPN and EA have been teasing some “Madden NFL 21” player ratings ahead of their full reveal on Friday.

We’ve already seen that Patrick Mahomes will be a member of the exclusive “99 Club.” Now we’ve learned about another top-rated Kansas City Chiefs player that’ll be coming to the game.

Chiefs star safety and team leader Tyrann Mathieu has the second-best overall rating of all the safeties in the game with a 93 overall rating. Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith is the only player with a better rating coming in at 95 overall.

Check out the top 10 safeties in the game by overall rating below:

Mathieu started the 2019 season as an 87 overall in “Madden NFL 20.” It’d seem that becoming a Super Bowl LIV champion and being voted as the team MVP was good enough for an overall rating bump of six points. We still don’t have the individual ratings, but those should be here on Friday.

Mathieu still has some questions about how he’ll be portrayed in “Madden NFL 21” after today’s reveal.

Mathieu wants to know if he’ll have a Superstar X-Factor ability in this year’s edition of the game. Last season, Mahomes was the only player for the Chiefs to receive one initially, but Mathieu wants one for himself and Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill too. X-Factor abilities have been confirmed for this iteration of the game, but they haven’t yet revealed which players will have them and if there will be any new abilities this year.

Be sure to watch the full reveal of player ratings on Friday, July 17 at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN. We’ll have an update on all of the Chiefs’ top-rated players after the show.
