Chiefs to trade for Ravens LT Orlando Brown Jr.

We have a trade ahead of the 2021 NFL draft!

The Kansas City Chiefs are making a trade to acquire Baltimore Ravens OT Orlando Brown Jr., who has been the subject of recent trade talks.

According to numerous reports, the Chiefs have made a blockbuster trade to acquire Brown Jr., who requested a trade over his desire to play left tackle. The Chiefs are sending quite the hefty trade package to acquire Brown Jr., with their first-round, third-round and fourth-round picks in the 2021 NFL draft, along with a fifth-round draft pick in 2022.

In return, the Chiefs will receive Brown Jr., a 2021 second-round pick and and 2022 sixth-round draft pick.

Brown Jr. (6-8, 345-pounds) was originally selected by the Ravens in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. He was the subject of much pre-draft criticism because he didn’t test well at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. He posted a poor 40-yard dash time, vertical jump and broad jump. Later, he’d prove everyone wrong with his performance in the NFL, earning back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 2019 and 2020.

The Chiefs had to pay a premium to land Brown Jr. because they’re in direct competition with the Ravens in the AFC conference. It was clear that the Ravens weren’t going to hold Brown Jr. hostage and force him to play a position that he didn’t want to play. Instead, he’ll go to Kansas City where he’ll be the de facto starter at left tackle.

The big question now is whether the team will sign him to a contract extension right away. Brown Jr. is scheduled to become a free agent in 2022 and as a former third-round pick, he doesn’t have a fifth-year option.
