The Kansas City Chiefs have made a move ahead of the trade deadline.

According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs are acquiring WR Kadarius Toney from the New York Giants. A former first-round pick by the Giants by way of the University of Florida in the 2021 NFL draft, Toney is heading to Kansas City after a short stay in New York. His time with the Giants was a bit tumultuous, appearing in 12 games with just five starts over the past two seasons mostly due to injury.

Toney ran a 4.39 40-yard dash time at the Florida Gators pro day. He has recorded 41 receptions for 420 yards in his two seasons with the Giants. He’s shown flashes of elite traits, but he’s yet to put things together with much consistency.

The Chiefs will send the third-round compensatory draft pick that they received from Ryan Poles becoming the GM of the Bears, as well as a sixth-round draft pick to the Giants in return for Toney. Despite the original report, that third-round draft pick is not conditional. The receiver will have two more years of control plus a fifth-year option that Kansas City can opt to use if things go well.
