The hero of the Kansas City Chiefs’ monster win over the Los Angeles Chargers on “Thursday Night Football” also made some NFL history with his performance.
After a career night where he caught 10 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns, Chiefs TE Travis Kelce now has 1,066 receiving yards on the season. That marks his sixth consecutive season with 1,000 receiving yards or more for Kelce. No other tight end in NFL history has accomplished that feat, placing Kelce squarely in a class of his own and it’s not the first time that’s happened.
Kelce is no stranger to making history. Earlier this season, Kelce passed Rob Gronkowski for the fifth-most receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history. He became the fastest player at the position to reach 8,000 receiving yards too. Last season, he made NFL history when he recorded his fifth consecutive season with at least 1000 receiving yards.
The best part about this performance and milestone for Kelce is that it comes after a few weeks where people have doubted the veteran tight end. He had back-to-back weeks with three receptions for 27 yards and people were questioning whether the 32-year-old tight end still had it. It’s safe to say after this performance, no one is questioning the greatness of Kelce.
The Chiefs certainly aren’t questioning it and are likely thrilled to know that they have him under contract through the 2025 NFL season. There’s plenty of more history for Kelce to make in Kansas City.
