Chiefs snap counts, Week 15: DeAndre Baker played few snaps in debut

What can we learn from the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 15 snap counts?

The Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints put on quite the show on Sunday afternoon. There were a ton of offensive snaps played in this game. We also saw a pair of players make their Chiefs debut. So what else can we learn about the snap totals from Week 15?

Here’s a look at how the snaps worked out this week:

Observations

  • The offense was on the field for 98 total snaps against the New Orleans Saints. That’s a season-high for the team and a testament to just how good the defense was playing on Sunday.
  • Stefen Wisniewski made his 2020 debut in Week 15. He played in all 98 snaps, starting at right guard for the team. He certainly had his moments on Sunday in what was a gauntlet of a debut game.
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire played in 45 snaps before suffering leg and hip injuries. He still managed 14 more snaps to Le’Veon Bell despite suffering that injury.
  • Byron Pringle played just six offensive snaps in his return from injured reserve. He did lead offensive players in special teams snaps with 26. It seems like he’s being eased back into things for the most part.
  • Anthony Sherman was a snap shy of his season-high on offense. They seem to be using him on offense more frequently. Last week he got the start against the Dolphins.
  • The Chiefs were in their sub-package defense often on Sunday, evidenced by rookie CB L’Jarius Sneed getting 93% of the defensive snaps. He’s been playing in the slot for Kansas City lately and notched his third interception of the year in New Orleans.
  • Alex Okafor saw two more snaps than Tanoh Kpassagnon in this one. Okafor used to play for the Saints, so I’m not sure if that had something to do with his usage. Kpassagnon did get the start for the team.
  • Ben Niemann played the most snaps of any linebacker for the Chiefs on Sunday with 47. He actually didn’t have a bad game either, racking up eight total tackles to lead the team in that stat.
  • Willie Gay played in just 12 defensive snaps in Week 15. His usage is still relegated to how often the team plays in their base defensive personnel.
  • DeAndre Baker’s much-anticipated debut ended in a fizzle. He played just seven snaps on special teams on the day and failed to make a noticeable impact.
  • Armani Watts and Antonio Hamilton finished the day with the lead in special teams snaps with 30.
