Chiefs remain No. 2 in Touchdown Wire’s power rankings after the bye week

The bye week didn’t hurt the Kansas City Chiefs in the power rankings.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the No. 2 team in the Touchdown Wire’s power rankings for the fourth consecutive week. The Chiefs didn’t play a game in Week 10 as they were on their bye week. It’s a credit to the type of team they have to not lose their standing in these weekly power rankings.

What did Touchdown Wire have to say about Kansas City after the Week 10 bye? It was all about Chiefs starting QB Patrick Mahomes. Here is a preview of what Mark Schofield wrote about the team this week:

“31 other teams do not have Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs do. So that might just be enough for them down the stretch.

Or…is it

An interesting discussion took hold of football twitter this past week, with the announcement of Pro Football Focus’ Midseason NFL All-Pro team. Absent from that list? Mahomes. Despite having 24 touchdown passes and just one interception at the break, the minds at PFF left him off and put Aaron Rodgers on the team, with Russell Wilson named to the second team.”

There’s perhaps nothing more inconsequential to how this NFL season shakes out than PFF’s Midseason NFL All-Pro team and their thoughts on “interceptable passes.”

To quote former Chiefs HC Herm Edwards during his infamous rant with the Jets, “You play to win the game!”

Last I checked the league doesn’t give out consolation prizes. All that matters at the end of the day is who comes away with the win. Right now, the Chiefs have won more games than 30 other football teams. I’ll take that and I’ll certainly take Mahomes at quarterback.

Is Mahomes infallible? Certainly not. He makes some risky, tight-window throws. One of the reasons why Kansas City is ranked so highly in the Touchdown Wire power rankings is because they don’t need Mahomes to be perfect in order to win games.

The Chiefs have one of the top-ranked defenses in the league. Their special teams unit has come up big for them at numerous times. The running game has flashed game-breaking ability. Let’s give those units their due respect because whenever Mahomes does throw his second interception, they’ll be there to pick him up.
