Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is making history, becoming the first half-billion dollar player in the world of sports.
Mahomes’ agency Steinberg Sports, led by Leigh Steinberg and Chris Cabott, negotiated the extension for the quarterback. They recently took to Twitter and released the final contract details for Mahomes. His extension will be worth over a half-billion dollars, totaling $503 million. According to Steinberg Sports, Mahomes will have a total of $477 million in guaranteed mechanisms attached to the contract. He’ll be able to get out of the contract if the contract guarantees aren’t exercised by the Chiefs.
There will also be a no-trade clause attached to the deal, not that Kansas City would ever fathom trading Mahomes. A small price to pay for a former league MVP and Super Bowl MVP.
Congrats to @PatrickMahomes on agreeing to terms on a 10-year extension worth $503 Million. He gets $477M in guarantee mechanisms and ability to have outs if guarantee mechanisms aren’t exercised. No trade clause. First half billion dollar player in sports history. History made. pic.twitter.com/beSGN4jyej

The previous richest contract in sports history was signed last year by Los Angeles Angels centerfielder Mike Trout. He signed a 12-year deal which is worth $426.5 million in total. Yes, Patrick Mahomes has exceeded baseball money with this new 10-year extension.
Mahomes’ deal isn’t just the biggest contract in NFL history, it’s going to turn the entire sporting world upside down. You’re going to have baseball players, basketball players and certainly other quarterbacks across the league trying to match it. Let’s be real, though, none of those players are even close to capable of doing what Mahomes has already accomplished in his short career.
