For the fourth consecutive year, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce will participate in the American Century Championship at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada.
This year marks the 34th edition of the golf tournament dubbed the “Super Bowl of celebrity golf.” The 54-hole tournament, which raises funds for local and national charities will take place from Friday, July 14 through Sunday, July 16 and airs on NBC, Golf Channel and Peacock. At stake is a purse of $600,000.
This year’s field of celebrity competitors features 90 golfers, with Mahomes and Kelce headlining the show for Kansas City. A few former Chiefs players, like Alex Smith and Marcus Allen, will also be among those competing. In all they’ve got actors, musicians, athletes and more set to compete this year.
Last year, Mahomes finished 51st in the celebrity golf tourney, tied with David Carr. Kelce placed 66th, which was the same placement he had the year prior.
The two Super Bowl champions are fresh off of a victory over Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in “The Match.” Hopefully, they’ll be able to carry over that success to leverage better placement in this year’s American Century Championship.
All participants in the American Century Championship will use modified Stableford rules in the 54-hole tournament. Points are awarded as follows: 10 points for a double eagle, 8 points for a hole-in-one, 3 points for a birdie, 1 point for par, no points for a bogey, and minus 2 for a double bogey.
While the tournament isn’t set to begin until Friday, practice rounds officially begin on Wednesday, July 12.
