Chiefs open as 3.5-point underdogs vs. Ravens in Week 3

The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t favored for the first time this season.

For the first time in the 2020 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs are not favored by oddsmakers to win their upcoming matchup.

Following Sunday’s slate of NFL games, the folks over at BetMGM released their opening betting lines for Week 3. After a hard-fought overtime victory of the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium, the Chiefs will hit the road again as they head to M&T Bank Stadium to face the Baltimore Ravens on “Monday Night Football.” Both teams are undefeated, which should make for an exciting showdown between AFC powerhouses.

At BetMGM, the Chiefs are currently listed as 3.5-point underdogs to the Ravens. The opening money line is set at +165 for Kansas City and -189 for Baltimore. The opening over/under point total is set at 52.5 points.

The Chiefs have only been a three-point-plus underdog five times since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback in Kansas City in 2018. The team is 3-2 straight up in those games and 4-0-1 against the spread.

It’s easy to understand why the Chiefs aren’t favored heading into this game. They’re playing on the road, coming off of a game where Mahomes was pressured at an unsustainable rate. They’re facing a Ravens team that’s quarterbacked by the reigning league MVP in Lamar Jackson. They have a tough defense and an explosive group of offensive skill players to boot.

At the same time, it feels like we’ve long forgotten how easily Kansas City dispatched Baltimore in Week 3 of 2019. The Chiefs had the advantage of 30-13 entering the fourth quarter and allowed 15 points to just three points in garbage time. This should be a competitive game and I wouldn’t rule out K.C. pulling out the upset.
