Chiefs land interior offensive line help in Touchdown Wire’s early 2021 mock draft

And the Chiefs also have the last pick in the first round of the draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs are getting some help along the interior offensive line in Touchdown Wire’s way-too-early first-round mock draft. Mark Schofield took a look at the glaring needs for every NFL team and put a plan into action for his mock draft.

The Chiefs have vacancies at the left and right guard positions that they’re working out during the course of training camp. Instead of grabbing a plug and play starter at one of those positions, Schofield chose to upgrade the center position. He grabbed Ohio State center, Josh Myers, at pick No. 32.

Here’s what Schofield had to say about his choice for Kansas City:

Similar to the Baltimore Ravens, what glaring needs do the Kansas City Chiefs have right now on paper? Sure, you might say cornerback, but with this wildly hypothetical board falling the way it has, the value might not be there, although options such as Eric Stokes from Georgia or T.J. Carter from Memphis are certainly viable.

Instead, the Chiefs look to the interior of their offense line and add a solid option at center in Josh Myers. He moves well in space and can drop his anchor well in pass protection.

Myers is entering his junior year at Ohio State. He was named a team captain ahead of the 2020 college football season. He was a first-year starter in 2019, playing an impressive 925 snaps at center for the Buckeyes. He’s a guy who has some mobility and plays with a finisher mentality. Listed at 6-5 and 312 pounds, he has a similar size to former Chiefs starting center Mitch Morse.

The current starting center in Kansas City, Austin Reiter, becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2021. It would make some sense to get a rookie center under contract playing with Patrick Mahomes. At the same time, it feels like the Chiefs have Nick Allegretti waiting in the wings to take over for Reiter. Maybe they would be better off grabbing one of the cornerbacks as Schofield suggests?

What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Would you be okay with the Chiefs drafting a center in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft? Be sure to let us know what you’re thinking on FacebookTwitter and the Chiefs Wire forums.
