Chiefs injury, absence updates from Day 15 of training camp

The #Chiefs’ injury list got much smaller on Tuesday. A positive sign with the team days away from a preseason tilt with the #Cardinals. More here:

The Kansas City Chiefs returned to the practice fields at Missouri Western State University on Tuesday for their penultimate practice of the year.

The Chiefs had the majority of their players on the practice field for a padded practice on Tuesday. That’s because three injured players were among the team’s first wave of roster cuts on Tuesday. RB Elijah McGuire (ankle), TE Evan Baylis (ankle) and WR Antonio Callaway (bone bruise) were either waived with an injury designation or placed on injured reserve.

LB Riley Cole returned to practice on Tuesday after an absence on Monday. Cole, who led the Chiefs in tackles in preseason Week 1, was dealing with an ankle sprain. LB Willie Gay Jr., DT Derrick Nnadi, DE Taco Charlton, DE Alex Okafor, LB Darius Harris, WR Marcus Kemp and CB Deandre Baker all continued to get work after returning to practice on Monday. Nnadi later left practice in what appeared to be a planned limited work session. He’s been dealing with a hip flexor injury.

That leaves just RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (hand), RG Kyle Long (tibia), and DE Malik Herring (knee) as the players who were absent from practice. All three players have injuries that are expected to keep them out of the preseason.

During the course of practice, the Chiefs did have a few injuries. Chiefs DE Frank Clark, who didn’t play in preseason Week 1 due to a hamstring injury, pulled up lame after a repetition at practice. He hobbled with the training staff over to the tent and then limped up the hill. The team confirmed after practice that Clark reaggravated the hamstring injury.

DT Jarran Reed left early with cramps and DE Demone Harris left early with an oblique injury. Harris’ absence seemed planned, in the same vein as Nnadi.

The team has their final public practice session tomorrow set for 8:15 a.m. CT.
