Chiefs HC Andy Reid says Melvin Ingram will play in Week 9 vs. Packers

Andy Reid says new #Chiefs DE/LB Melvin Ingram will be active against the #Packers on Sunday. “We’ll have a few plays for him,” Reid said.

The Kansas City Chiefs will get a first look at new DE/LB Melvin Ingram when they face the Green Bay Packers in Week 9.

It wasn’t a given that Ingram would play this week after joining the team late Tuesday evening following his trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chiefs HC Andy Reid suggested it was possible on Wednesday, but didn’t make a commitment. Speaking with reporters on Thursday, even Ingram didn’t know if he’d be able to play this week on such a quick turnaround.

“I feel like we’re going to just see how the week goes,” Ingram said. “We definitely trying to get up to speed. You know, you come in and some lingo will be the same, some different. You definitely just have got to learn that lingo, that’s why we’re just taking it one day at a time. Just trying to get caught up to speed.”

Apparently, Ingram has been able to rely on his veteran wit to get caught up to speed on the lingo in Kansas City. Addressing the media on Friday, Reid confirmed that Ingram would suit up and play in the Week 9 game against the Packers.

“Yeah, he’ll be up,” Reid told reporters. “We’ll have a few plays for him. He’s looking good. He’s done a nice job.”

It probably helps that Ingram played the Packers back in Week 4 with Pittsburgh. He played nearly 50% of the defensive snaps, recording three pressures and a stop during the game. He likely won’t get a huge workload on Sunday, but expect the Chiefs to utilize Ingram in certain blitz packages on third-and-long situations.
