Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave more injury updates on Friday than he typically does, with several players looking to potentially return after missing time.

He also gave an update on DE Chris Jones, who missed the entire practice week in an effort to try and get a nagging wrist injury under control. As Reid put it, the team is trying to get the wrist injury “calmed down” by resting Jones.

“The only one that didn’t practice today was Chris Jones,” Reid began. “Everybody else practiced and we’ll just see how he does here in the next couple of days with his wrist.”

Asked if he could play without a full week of practice, Reid didn’t hesitate one bit.

“He could, he could do that,” Reid said.

Look for Jones to be designated as questionable heading into the game and a true game-time decision for Sunday.

As for other injured players, the highly-anticipated return of Willie Gay Jr. might come this week, or it might not. He has yet to be activated from injured reserve after being designated to return earlier this week.

“Yeah, we’ll have to see how it goes here in the next couple of days with that,” Reid said of Gay. “As long as he can get in, know his stuff and feel comfortable with his foot, he’ll be OK there.”

That note sounded positive, but Reid shared another tidbit on the second-year linebacker. He didn’t practice in full on Friday and was let out of practice early.

“I should say also that Willie (Gay) was let out of practice for personal reasons today,” Reid said.

The Chiefs’ linebacker later shared on social media that he was struggling with his mental health.

It’s safe to say that a return for Gay might be put on hold as he deals with whatever he’s currently struggling with, both mental and physical.

As for cornerbacks Rashad Fenton and Charvarius Ward, Reid sounded optimistic that both would be available to play against the Bills in Week 5.

“Yeah, I think so,” Reid said of Fenton and Ward. “I’m pretty sure they’re going to be there, unless something happened here.”

After practicing in full all week, DE Frank Clark also tracks to make his second start of the season on Sunday night.
