Chiefs fill 16-man practice squad with two new additions

The #Chiefs have officially added TE Kendall Blanton and LB Cole Christiansen to the practice squad, bringing their total to 16 players.

The Kansas City Chiefs have completed their first iteration of the practice squad with a full 16 players.

As of yesterday’s practice squad announcement, the Chiefs had just 14 players under contract. On Thursday, they officially added two more players to the mix.

Earlier this morning it was reported that the team had signed former Chargers LB Cole Christiansen to the practice squad. The team also made things official with former Rams TE Kendall Blanton, who they tried to claim on waivers during the course of the preseason.

Here is the full 16-man practice squad as it currently stands:

  1. S Zayne Anderson
  2. G Mike Caliendo
  3. LB Jack Cochrane
  4. RB Jerrion Ealy
  5. WR Daurice Fountain
  6. TE Jordan Franks
  7. S Nazeeh Johnson
  8. DE Azur Kamara
  9. LB Elijah Lee
  10. QB Chris Oladokun
  11. WR Cornell Powell
  12. C Austin Reiter
  13. DT Danny Shelton
  14. DT Taylor Stallworth
  15. LB Cole Christiansen
  16. TE Kendall Blanton

We know that at least one change will soon come. Kansas City is expected to re-sign LB Elijah Lee to the 53-man roster once they get TE Blake Bell placed on injured reserve. The Chiefs don’t appear to be in a rush to make that move official.

For now, the practice squad is set for Kansas City, but we can expect it to undergo some changes soon.

“You’ll have big pockets of workouts now when the dust settles, and guys are out there and guys become available,” Chiefs GM Brett Veach told reporters on Wednesday. “Teams will start bringing in two, three, four players at a position and work them out and get even more extensive time with them, and then kind of bleed them into the practice squad.”

We’ll see whether the Chiefs work out any new players in the coming days, which could signal that another change is coming.
