The Kansas City Chiefs’ 2020 regular-season schedule has been revealed.
During the live broadcast announcing the schedule, BJ Kissel and Mitch Holthus were joined by Chiefs’ defensive leader Tyrann Mathieu. The one burning question that fans wanted to know was which game that Mathieu was most looking forward to this season.
“For me, it’ll probably be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” Mathieu said. “I think anytime you get a chance to play against some of the greatest players to ever play the game I always look at that as a great challenge.”
This part of his answer is to be expected, talking about Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski as some of the greatest to ever play the game. However, the rest of Mathieu’s answer might surprise you.

“I think for me it’s a little deeper than that,” Mathieu continued. “Going against some of my old ball coaches from when I first came into the NFL. You’ve got Todd Bowles and Bruce Arians. Even some of the young bucks that they have on their team that look up to me. I’m pretty sure they’re going to try to steal nuggets from me as we go, but I have to be mindful of how often I give out these nuggets.”
There you have it, Mathieu is excited to compete against his old coaches. He previously has harbored some resentment toward the Cardinals franchise likely due to his untimely release from Arizona. Now he gets a chance to show up Bowles and Arians, with some flashy new Super Bowl LIV hardware and a big chip on his shoulder.
Mathieu also is excited to give the young defenders for Tampa Bay a bit of a show, but you won’t find him revealing too many of his tricks to his opponents in the AFC.
