The Kansas City Chiefs will soon welcome L’Jarius Sneed back to the team.

Sneed missed the Week 14 game against the Las Vegas Raiders following the stabbing death of his oldest brother, TQ Harrison, over the weekend. Sneed is expected to miss Tuesday’s practice, but according to Chiefs HC Andy Reid, he’s on his way back to Kansas City.

“L’Jarius Sneed, he’s on his way back to town here,” Reid told reporters on Tuesday.

Sneed’s decision to return to the team was of his own volition according to Reid. As for his status for the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, Reid was hesitant to commit to Sneed being available to play. Reid does think that him returning to the team will help him overcome the situation he’s currently dealing with.

“I’ve had a chance to talk to him here a little bit over the last few days,” Reid said. “Obviously, he’s hurting from the situation. He was very close to his brother. But he’s on his way back and I think it’ll be good for him to be around his teammates. They care a lot about him. I think that will help him.”

Reid isn’t the only one who thinks that getting back to football will be good for Sneed. Chiefs defensive leader Tyrann Mathieu also spoke on the subject on Tuesday.

“He actually texted me,” Mathieu said of Sneed. “He told me he loved me, and for me, that was all I really needed to hear. Obviously, I think he’s dealing with a lot right now, but football means a lot to him. It means a lot to his family. I feel like, in my opinion with the things that I have went through, he’ll have some motivation going forward. I think he’s one of those guys that is going to capitalize off of this.”

Whether Sneed plays on Thursday night remains to be seen, but should he put together a good practice session on Wednesday, it might be hard to keep him from the field.
