Checking on the Quarantine Celtics: Day 5 with no basketball

On day five with no basketball, the Boston Celtics are still helping us get through this pandemic with a hefty dose of humor.

The Boston Celtics are still self-quarantining, though much of the U.S. has joined them as it becomes increasingly clear the importance of social distancing in helping slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic behind the suspension of NBA activities since March 11th.

And with the Centers for Disease Control advising no gatherings of any kind for eight more weeks, it may be some time before we see the Celtics together in any capacity, never mind on the court.

But like the rest of us, they’ve been using social media to help us survive the lack of NBA basketball and those of us able to participate in the self-imposed isolation that is so critical to keeping hospitals under control.

Rookie forward Grant Williams has been taking some satisfaction in the spread of board games as a leisure activity due to the limitations created by coronavirus precautions.

Right about now, there’s probably more than a few of us who’d prefer to be settlers of Catan, the fictional backdrop of the eponymous game Williams is particularly fond of.

The Tennessee product has also been exploring new sports, though I’m perhaps less confident marble racing is going to take off, even in this climate.

Celtics center Enes Kanter is starting to feel a little lost without basketball as well, as evidenced by the Family Guy-inspired post below:

Though he has kept his sense of humor, as you might expect:

Veteran guard Marcus has got the jokes as well, a little levity making a somber situation more tolerable.

Though maybe someone should check in with the Young Game Changer to see if he has enough toilet paper based off his recent Twitter activity:

Jayson Tatum has taken to watching player highlights to pass the time as many of us have.

Sometimes his own:

And some that might raise a few eyebrows:

But now is not the time to dwell on negativity — it’s a time for solidarity. So it may well be wise to let bygones be bygones as we sort through the messy situation we now find ourselves in.

The only way through it is together, and we might as well make it as fun for one another as we can while it lasts.
