When Colorado native Derrick White left high school, it seemed unlikely he would end the starting point guard for an NBA contender like the Boston Celtics. White wasn’t heavily recruited his senior year, and began his collegiate career playing Division II with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
He blossomed as a UCCS Mountain Lion, however, and opted to transfer to University of College Boulder for his senior season. Now playing in Division I and the Pac-12, White soared. He was named first-team All-Pac-12 and was a member of the All-Defensive team. White averaged 18. points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists during his single season as a Colorado Buffalo, foreshadowing the type of player he would become in the pros.
